Storyteller & Cartoonist
I’ve been making comics since 2015 and was nominated for a British Comics Award in 2016, ran comics workshops in the UK and Norway and have spoken about my work on BBC Radio.
Here is a selection of comics that I have created that you can read for free HERE
Please check out this selection of reviews for my comics TRIANGLE, ZORSE and my Cat Girl story in the TAMMY & JINTY SPECIAL 2020.
theatre & film
I am a graduate of the VAULT Festival New Writers’ Programme 2019, Tamasha Playwrights 2020’ currently developing my debut play to hopefully hit the stage when theatres reopen.
I was commissioned to write a screenplay for a short film – the romantic comedy ‘MEET CUTE’ – by the production company Crunchy Tomatoes.
I am currently writing more short films for them.
I design & run my comics and illustration workshops to tie in with curriculum topics of your choice. The sessions have the power to engage pupils with writing, character creation and drawing in addition to their current topic.
In a typical session I show the group my portfolio and demonstrate how I create characters. I introduce them to some inspiring illustrated fiction then teach them to draw a character step- by-step. I take the group through the fundamentals of character creation, then support them in creating original characters and either comic strips or picture book plans.
In 2019, I ran a comics workshop at the Haugaland High School in Norway as part of ‘My Life In Strips’ schools contest where participants had the opportunity to enter a European wide competition.
For this event I specially designed workshops where students learnt both the elements of story creation as well as turning stories into a full comic book strip. Participants experienced the full comic-making process first hand and had the opportunity to see their work displayed at a local festival participating in the project.
Please contact me with your booking query for more information and pricing. A discounted rate is available for full day bookings, which can include four sessions with different year groups and topics. I include printable resources such as planning sheets for pupils, comic templates and guidance notes for teachers at email@example.com
I won the second prize in Faber Children’s and the Andlyn Agency’s inaugural FAB Prize for BAME writers and illustrators. I am currently writing my first middle grade children’s book.
In The Press
I’m a London based creative who immigrated with my family from Somalia to the UK as asylum seekers. I read way too many comics and fantasy novels as a child. Luckily, I turned that into a career.
